Students learn in small classes of approximately 12, in a stimulating and challenging environment. During their session, the previous week’s homework is reviewed and explained, then new work is taught. Lessons are tailor made to cover all the necessary topics vital for success in the 11+ examinations. Class participation is positively encouraged and each child’s input is equally valued.
If, for any reason, a child cannot attend their normal timeslot, we offer a live online catch-up lesson so that children do not fall behind in their programme of work.
Verbal Reasoning (VR) is the ability to comprehend language and words. Skills include recognising relationships between words, identifying letter patterns and working out codes. VR assessments reward pupils who have a high reading ability, a confident range of vocabulary and those who are quick and accurate in spotting patterns with letters. Despite the name, Verbal Reasoning can also test the ability to recognise number patterns and relationships too.

Our regular Mental Arithmetic Homework exercises provide pupils with the essential regular practice in arithmetic, mathematical operations, problems solving and building keyword knowledge.
Develop the ability to write descriptively, inventively and imaginatively. Pupils learn writing techniques to boost their creative confidence with a variety of composition homework activities.
Each English or Verbal Reasoning lesson or homework activity is an opportunity to build vocabulary. In lessons, new words are highlighted and defined. Pupils then develop this through research of synonyms, antonyms, part of speech and sentence context.
Regular spelling tests and English homework feedback fosters and develops spelling ability.
Regular comprehension tasks allow pupils to develop their reading and understanding ability in both fiction and non-fiction extracts. Pupils consistently build on their sentence writing ability by responding to feedback on comprehension homework.
